Tarmac & Asphalt Surfacing For Playgrounds

We are specialists in the tarmacing of school playgrounds with years of experience. Tarmac and asphalt are the most common forms of surfaces used on playgrounds in the UK. They look great, are easy to maintain and can withstand years of heavy use.

Types of Playground Surfaces

Tarmac Playground Surface

The majority of playgrounds in the UK are made from tarmac. They are a popular choice in schools and parks as they’re low maintenance and provide a safe surface for children to play on. They are extremely durable and require very little maintenance.

We can even resurface existing playgrounds. Usually, when the top layer of your tarmaced playground begins to show wear from heavy use, a new top layer can often be applied as the foundations are likely stable. This makes playground resurfacing a cost effective option.

Coloured Asphalt Playground

We provide a range of colours for asphalt tarmacing. Although black is the most common colour used, we can surface your playground in a range of colours and designs. Our asphalt can also be painted with a special anti-slip coating, which is ideal for wet conditions. Playground safety is one of our highest priorities so children have a safe and fun place to play.

Porous Asphalt Playground Surface

Porous asphalt is a textured tarmacing that allows water to flow through it. It ensures that water will not collect in your playground, so you don’t need to worry about flooding or damage to it. Porous asphalt makes a safe and robust surface for playgrounds which are fantastic in all conditions, but really show their value on those wet or snowy days.

Benefits of Tarmac and Asphalt Playgrounds

Surfacing Your Playground

Before starting, we will ensure that the drainage is excellent. This will mean that your playground will not flood with water.

We will ensure that we customise the drainage system according to your requirements. We are experienced in delivering safe playgrounds throughout the UK, which can handle whatever conditions are thrown at them.

School Playground Installation

Installation involves excavating your playground to the correct depth and a membrane is put in place to enhance the stability of the tarmac. We then use a stone base and compact it to a standard depth.

We then put a 50mm foundation of asphalt at the base before coating the playground tarmac with a 30mm asphalt of a finer grade. All tailored to your specification requirements.

We also provide playground line painting services – perfect for pitches, sports courts and other games.

We Can Retarmac Old Playgrounds

A tarmac overlay refers to a practice of repairing the asphalt or tarmac for your schools playground. This can be applied when the base layer of the existing surface is in good working order and the drainage falls are working as they should. This is an excellent value service that will repair the surface of your playground without breaking the bank.
